My main focus currently is my first novel. All That it Takes (working title) is a contemporary thriller set in Victoria, BC. I am revising/rewriting draft four. This novel came out of the 2013 National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo) (November). A word about Nanowrimo – even though this is a platform to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November, I quite often use it to get some writing done. Last year I added 30,000 words to my current novel project. The remaining 20,000 words went towards blog posts and other writing projects.
I have submitted a short piece to a flash fiction contest and I am working on a couple short stories to submit to other contests.
Looking forward, I hope to get myself organized to seek out opportunities for freelance writing work at some point.
For the past two years, I have been on a huge learning curve and wouldn’t be able to forge ahead without encouragement from my writing community. I am forever grateful and continuously inspired.
Part of the learning curve has involved some wonderful conferences, workshops, and writing groups. I have found treasures of writing tips and insights into the whole publishing process. Here are a few that I have benefited from:
Surrey International Writers Conference – annual conference
Spring Writes Festival – Federation of BC Writers – 2017
I also have a small group of like-minded writing friends with whom I meet with on a weekly basis. This is a wonderful time of accountability, encouragement, and friendship.
