The Case for Quitting Your Day Job

Considering the title of my last post and some changes I have made in my professional life, the above title is fitting.

I did it. I bit the bullet. I quit my day job.

No, I am not yet making a living off my writing. The hope is there and I needed to make some changes to help me get on the right path.

As much as my job was bringing in a pay-cheque, and providing fodder for my fiction, the negatives were beginning to outweigh the benefits.

I have been miserable at my job for the last several months. I have been bored and unchallenged to the point of tears nearly every day.  I was feeling trapped, under valued and under utilized. It was time to leave to save my sanity.

I am in a position financially that I can step away from a daily 9 to 5 job for the next 6 to 8 months and dig in and focus on getting a couple of my projects closer to completion.

I have total support on the home front and the response from friends has been overwhelmingly encouraging. Too many times circumstances prevent us from pursuing our dreams and creative endeavours. At this moment my circumstances are enabling me to pursue my passion for writing and I would not be true to who I am or what I believe my gifts are if I didn’t step out in faith.

Now, when someone asks me what I do, I say I am a Writer. It is my day job and my all consuming passion. I get up in the morning and work on my writing projects and creating a more comprehensive platform.

I am a Writer.

In the hopefully near future, I will be an Author.
